This book is intended for people who want to organize their own learning either individually or as a member of a community group rather than fit into a more predetermined and perhaps more formal educational experience. Section 1 focuses on learning to a purpose. Section 2 discusses getting going. In the next section are suggestions for finding information about the operation of literacy groups. Section 4 addresses fund raising and other sources of money. Chapter 5 looks at learners and learning. Topics include helping someone else to learn ways of learning, strategies used in reading, and what to think about when writing. Chapter 6 discusses reading and writing materials, including how to make materials. Chapter 7 summarizes the content, offers suggestions, provides a list of resources, and contains a check list to develop one's own list of local contacts. (YLB)
