Education in Japan: What Does It Mean to the U.S.?
Nommay, Louanne
This study surveys recent literature on education in Japan to determine what elements of the Japanese educational system could be incorporated into America's pedagogical system. There are four sections with the following titles: (1) What comparisons are being made between Japanese and American students in achievement and IQ tests scores? (2) How does the Japanese educational system differ from the American? (3) What are the attitudes of each nation toward its educational system? and (4) Should the United States model its educational system after Japan's? Annotations are presented of research journals, research periodicals, abstracts, and current literature. Suggestions are offered on what Japanese educational practices the United States should and should not adopt. A bibliography of the literature reviewed is included. (JD)
