Designed to provide information about the current status and future direction of Maryland's community college system, this report offers a summary and overview of all aspects of community college functioning in the state. Section I provides a general overview of higher education in Maryland, presenting a higher education organizational chart, undergraduate credit enrollment headcount, a comparison of undergraduate credit enrollments to political subdivisions served, and actual and projected Maryland births and high school graduates for the period 1963-1994. Section II focuses on enrollment trends between 1982 and 1986, examining credit enrollment by transfer and occupational program area, by student status, by race, and by residence; full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment for state aid; state-funded credit enrollment trends; and continuing education enrollment. Section III looks at student financial assistance, summarizing the number of awards, total funds, and average awards for the 1984-1985 academic year. Degrees and certificates awarded in fiscal year 1986 are presented in section IV, while section V looks at revenues and expenditures, including costs of administering state aid, current unrestricted revenues, sources of support, and net cost per full-time equivalent student for fiscal years 1982-1987. Section VI presents data on salaries and characteristics of college administrative and instructional personnel; section VII offers information on the physical facilities of the colleges. Finally, section VIII presents tables showing student outcomes, 1987 tuition per 15-week term, the student-faculty ratio for 1982-1986, the Maryland State Board for Community Colleges organizational chart and a map of the state.
