The extent to which video has come of age with respect to language learning is the focus of this special issue, which provides information on sources of materials and offers practical ideas for the effective and creative use of those materials in second language instruction. Ecklund); "Video in Second Language Teacher Training" (Pearl Goodman); "Spanish for Agricultural Purposes: Another Use of Video" (Bruce H. Mainous, Robert Blomeyer, Jr., Junetta B. Gillespie); "An Introduction to Interactive Video" (Ulric Chung); "A Theory of Learning and Skill-Acquisition Applied to Interactive Video: Activities at the David O. McKay Institute, Brigham Young University" (Larrie E. Gale, Bruce L. Brown); and "Copyright Guidelines for 'Fair Use' of Videotapes for Education" (Junetta B. Gillespie). The issue also contains detailed reviews of five video courses (including availability and other information). Courses are: "Access to Arabic" (for businessmen and others planning to travel in the Arab world); "Everyday Mandarin: Chinese Video Course for Beginners"; "Follow Me to San Francisco" (a beginner's course in American English); "Living in Washington" (for fourth- and fifth-year students of English--set in Washington State); and "Speak Easy: English through Video Mime Sketches" (for intermediate English language students). Seven brief book reviews whose topics range from elementary composition practice to spoken Cree conclude the document. (MSE)
