To provide guidance and advice regarding day-to-day responsibilities of new and experienced school administrators and superintendents in New York State, this compendium of knowledge and advice submitted by practitioners is presented with emphasis on all major aspects of superintendency. The section on general aspects of superintendency includes "The Essence of School Leadership" (Fritz Hess); "Do's and Don'ts for the Superintendent" (Richard W. Moomaw and Charles C. Aquino); "Models of School Management" (Jerry J. Cicchelli); "Leadership and Management in a BOCES District" (Clifford N. Crooks); and "The Superintendent's Contract" (Dennis G. O'Hara). In the section on governance in the school district are "Superintendent-School Board Relationships" (Robert W. Heller) and"Boardsmanship from the Superintendent's Perspective" (Joseph Executive). The section on planning includes "Planning in the Local School District" (Laura R. Fliegner) and "Declining Enrollment in the School District" (Katherine E. Keough). The section on curriculum has "Developing a Curriculum Management System" (Richard D. Hibschman) and "Computers in Instruction" (Judith Lasher Duken and Joeseph S. Verdone.) The section on student affairs includes "Discipline in American Schools" (Donald C. Parker); "Working with Minority Students" (Daniel A. Domenech); and "Special Education in the School District" (Ann P. Myers). "Faculty Study: Essential Ingredients" (Ira J. Singer) and "Collective Negotiations" (John J. Keough) are presented in the section on personnel. In the section on facilities is "Facilities Planning and School District Reorganization" (Basil L. Hick). The section on school business management includes "School District Budgeting" (August E. Cerrito); "State Financial Aid" (Larry Steinhart and Janice Biros); "Investment of District Funds" (James Barnes); "Purchasing in the School District" (Charles Button); "Insurance in the School District" (Paul Jensen); and "Pupil Transportation in New York State" (Lee Comeau).
