Los Angeles Community College District Campus Child Development Centers' Measures of Effectiveness Project. Second Evaluation Report, Fiscal Year 1983-1984.
Carfagna-Hunt, Karen; And Others
The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) provides a Campus Child Development Center (CCDC) educational program for the preschool children of its college students at all nine of its campuses. In 1983-84, on-site, peer review team visits were conducted to evaluate the centers in terms of their achievement of six program objectives. The objectives related to: (1) enhancing access to higher education and job training for the student-parent; (2) serving as a field training site for all academic departments; (3) functioning as an early childhood education program for children of college students; (4) maintaining an exemplary community college campus-based child development center program; (5) offering a parent involvement program to enhance parenting skills; and (6) expanding and enhancing existing child development services. The evaluation team was composed of two program directors, two instructors, and the county evaluation consultant. This evaluation report begins with information on the original intent and future plans for the district's CCDC program, states the CCDC philosophy, and describes the centers. Next, program evaluation results are detailed by program objective, providing information on personnel responsible, the tasks involved in achieving the objectives, and the measures to be used to assess the accomplishment of the tasks. Special commendations are given to programs with outstanding achievements. Next, program evaluation results are provided for each of the nine LACCD campuses. A survey instrument for parents and census report are appended. (LAL)
