Clackamas Community College 1986 High School Marketing Survey.
Fawcett, Lee; Hoglan, Janelle
A survey was conducted to gather information from high school juniors and seniors in the Clackamas Community College (CCC) District about their post-high school plans; the factors, people, and information sources most important in the college choice process; and student perceptions of CCC. A total of 1,758 completed surveys were received from nine area high schools. Study findings included the following: (1) 67.9% of the students planned to attend college or trade school immediately after high school, and 88.5% planned to attend college eventually; (2) students indicated that their parents had the most influence on their choice of college; (3) availability of a particular program of study was the most important factor in college choice; (4) a visit to a college and college publications were considered the most important sources of information about a college; and (5) in comparison with survey responses from the previous year, there was a significant increase in students' overall knowledge level about CCC, with 59.3% of the responding seniors having a moderate to high level of knowledge as opposed to 40.8% in 1985. Based on study findings, a series of recommendations concerning publicity and recruitment were developed. The survey instrument is appended. (EJV)
