Some Implications of Language Awareness Work for Teacher Training (Pre-Service and In-Service).

The need to prepare teachers in both language awareness and other content-area courses is discussed. The role of language awareness and related activities in all areas of the curriculum, including subject-specific courses, study skills, and native, foreign, and community languages is examined. Specific suggested areas of training for teachers include examination of their own control of language use, linguistic principles, teaching techniques, the teacher's role, observation strategies, and teacher involvement in course design and classroom interaction.
