TARGETS: A Systematic Instructional Strategy Designed to Enhance Intrinsic Motivation.
Fewell, Deborah Harris
This curriculum guide is a systematic instructional strategy designed to enhance the intrinsic motivation of learning disabled adolescents. The complete strategy encompasses three major phases. Phase P (Preparing for Challenges) describes steps in preparing the classroom environment and presenting program goals to students. Phase A (Attacking Challenges) comprises the bulk of the document and consists of six lesson plans. Topics covered are a description of the TARGETS program, goal setting, writing goals, planning behaviors to accomplish goals, putting plans to action, and self-evaluation and goal adjustment. Phase C (Conquering Challenges) briefly describes combining the TARGETS program with learning strategies in the area of writing. A goals worksheet, 20 transparencies, and lesson worksheets for each of the six lesson plans are included. (JW)
