Elementary Science Supplement to the Syllabus. Level I (Ages 4 through 7).
New York State Education Dept., Albany.
Developed to complement existing elementary science programs, the materials in this first volume of New York's Elementary Science Supplement to the Syllabus emphasize a direct experience, hands-on approach for children of ages 4 through 7. Major sections include: (1) guidelines for program activities (explaining the organizational format of the guide); (2) correlating syllabus and program (including a chart which identifies areas in need of supplementary expansion); and (3) program activities (indicating in most cases the syllabus emphasis, problem, concepts, component connection, evaluation strategy, activities, and supplementary information for 4 units, 4 miniunits, and 16 unit starters). These sub-sections focus on topics such as measuring, properties, pets, the moon, rocks, and animal myths. Appendices consist of a policy statement dealing with handicapped students and a syllabus program correlation chart for Level I students (ages 4 through 7). (ML)
