Designed to assist students in understanding solid waste resource recovery, this teaching aid package aims to get students involved in practical activities that require participation, observation, and interpretation. Provided in this package are definitions, methods, causes and effects, costs, and benefits of resource recovery presented in the form of behavioral objectives suitable for use in curricula of grades 4 through 12. Major sections include: (1) a scope and sequence (specifying 13 subject areas with sub-topics in an outline form); (2) objectives, activities, exhibits, and fact sheets (presenting materials and information for each of the major subject areas); (3) references (containing the bibliography for the teaching guide and listings of references on properties of waste materials, thermal processing, biological processes, sanitary landfill, disposal at sea, and other sources of information and assistance); (4) glossary (containing definitions for terms associated with solid wastes); and (5) Florida Projects (providing a listing of Florida's governmental and private resource recovery facilities and a listing of Florida's small scale recycling projects).
