The Cooperative Demonstration Kindergarten: 1979-1985.

This report presents a review of the activities implemented from January 1979 to August 1985 within the Cooperative Demonstration Kindergarten (CDK), a project of the College of Education, Mississippi State University. Part I provides the original concept paper for the CDK. Part II reproduces the statement of agreement between the College of Education and the Starkville Municipal Separate School District. Part III presents an analysis of the research data collected during the various school years. Part IV provides full texts of studies generated from the kindergarten data base, including (1) "A Model for the Evaluation of the Stanford Early Achievement Test"; (2) "The Relationship between Intellectual Achievement and Language Skills and Birth Order, Sex, and Family Configuration of Children"; (3) "Comparison of Variables Contributing to Adjustment of Kindergarten Children"; (4) "Curriculum Development Strategies for Planning a Kindergarten Program"; (5) "Mississippi State Cooperative Demonstration Kindergarten Readiness Gains in 1983-84"; (6) "Kindergarten: What Happens"; (7) "Self-Concept Measures of Kindergarten Children"; and (8) "A Longitudinal Comparison of Achievement: Public School Kindergarten, Nonpublic School Kindergarten, No Kindergarten." Abstracts of three dissertations are included. Part V describes the curriculum of the CDK, Part VI describes the programs' parent involvement component, and Part VII reproduces the proposal for the second phase of the project, concerning continued involvement with the Starkville schools.
