This handbook is designed to help teachers establish and maintain an occupational orientation program. The 10 chapters contain information on the following topics: (1) "What Is Occupational Orientation?" (2) "What Is Vocational Education?" (3) "How Do I Obtain Occupational Orientation Teacher Ceritfication?" (4) "What Rules and Regulations Affect Me and/or My Program?" (5) "How Do I Keep Abreast of All the Changes?" (6) What Makes an Effective Occupational Orientation Teacher?" (7) "How Do I Establish and Maintain Positive Public Relations?" (8) "What Is the Purpose of an Advisory Council?" (9) "How Do I Organize My Program?" and (10) "How Do I Obtain Career Guidance Materials?" Besides containing guidelines and information sheets directed toward occupational orientation teachers, the handbook also includes many classroom-use materials such as activity sheets, sample forms and certificates, student learning outcomes, a sample student occupational interest survey, and detailed forms and instructions for use in developing and maintaining a file of local career resources. The chapter on developing an effective occupational orientation program includes information on teaching regular classroom and special needs students, eliminating sex stereotyping, and maintaining class control.
