How to Set Up Latch Key Programs Providing Experiential Opportunities for Child Care Students. Process Manual.
Nichols, Julie; Hamilton, Trudy
Information and materials are presented to aid in the development of an after school program for latchkey children. An introduction describes the program that served as the basis for this manual and that provided this community service while giving hands-on learning experience to high school vocational child development and child care students. Contents include steps in setting up a latchkey program, answers to frequently asked questions about the program, a list of useful community resources, and overviews of child development and child care classes. Also included are samples of the high school child care curriculum lesson plans, a listing of the resources used, and samples of lesson plans developed by the child care leaders that were implemented in the Latch Key Program. An appendix contains an application form for project coordinator, Latch Key Program guidelines, off-grounds permission form, parent evaluation form, child care student evaluation form and results, program registration form, correspondence, and monthly recordkeeping sheet.
