Development of Interactive Videodisc Training for Army Land Navigation Skills. Final Report.
Elder, B. Leon; And Others
Interactive videodisc computer-assisted instruction (CAI) on land navigation tasks for M1 Abrams tank commander was developed and installed in a Basic Noncommissioned Officer's Course (BNOC) classroom at Fort Knox, Kentucky. A two-sided videodisc was developed to support the CAI courseware, which was developed on Hazeltine Corporation's MicroTICCIT system using the ADAPT authoring language. This report on the development and implementation of the instructional system contains an executive summary and background information, as well as detailed information on the project's activities and products. This information is presented in five sections, which address: (1) the design of the CAI courseware; (2) the presentation of the courseware on MicroTICCIT; (3) the contents of the videodisc; (4) the implementation and evaluation of remedial CAI; and (5) the materials included in the courseware for each of the five land navigation tasks--Identify Terrain Features and Determine Elevation, Orient a Map by Terrain Association, Determine a Location on the Ground by Terrain Association, Locate an Unknown Point on the Ground by Intersection or Resection, and Analyze Terrain Using the Five Military Aspects of Terrain. A list of references and a glossary of terms are provided, and learning guidelines and land navigation courseware menus are appended. (JB)
