Follow-Up Survey of the Graduates of the Classes of 1979, 1981 and 1983 Conducted Spring, 1984.
Gelb, Edward A.
A formal evaluation of the academic programs of Keystone Junior College (KJC) began in 1983-1984 with a survey of the graduates of the classes of 1979, 1981, and 1983. Questionnaires were mailed to 602 of the 657 KJC graduates who had received their degree either 1, 3, or 5 years previously. The survey sought information about the graduate's further education, employment while attending Keystone Junior College, and employment since leaving the college. The graduates were also asked to describe their first career-oriented job and their most recent career-oriented job. Study findings, based on a 43% response rate, included the following: (1) 57% of the respondents attended another school after leaving KJC, with 34% of these students earning a bachelor's degree; (2) of the 122 respondents who were employed while they attended KJC, 53% indicated their education had no effect on their job situation, 16% said their education had resulted in promotion and salary increase, and 16% said they could do a better job; (3) 65% of the respondents began a new job after they left KJC, and, of these, 67% were very or somewhat satisfied with their job and 84% were very or somewhat satisfied with their preparation for this job; and (4) 45% of the employed respondents indicated that they had had another career-oriented job subsequent to their first job after graduating. The survey instrument is included along with tables presenting study findings. (RO)
