Maryland Community Colleges 1985 Program Evaluations.

As part of an annual statewide evaluation process, quantitative information on community college education is reviewed by the Maryland State Board for Community Colleges. Subsequently, in particular cases, a qualitative assessment is conducted by individual colleges in response to specific questions raised by the Board. This report provides the results of individual qualitative evaluations of 53 programs throughout the state and the results of a statewide evaluation of data processing/computer programming career programs. First, the data processing/computer programming evaluation is presented. This section includes program descriptions, information on student trends and characteristics, program performance, results of evaluations conducted by the colleges, and recommendations. The next section contains qualitative program evaluation reports for 53 programs identified as having specific problems (e.g., low transfer performance, low enrollments, low job placement rates, high costs, inadequate follow-up, or declining awards). Each evaluation report includes identifying information on the college, the program, and the level of award; an overview of the problem identified; questions posed by the Board to identify the causes of the problem; the factors contributing to the problem; the college's view of when the situation might stabilize; the steps which the college plans to take to address the problem; specific issues raised by the Board; and Board recommendations.
