Coming Together Again: Making the Balanced Curriculum Work. Proceedings of the Kutztown Art Conference (42nd, Kutztown, Pennsylvania, November 1, 1985).
Burkett, Mary, Ed.; And Others
Articles in this publication summarize, and in some instances elaborate the proceedings of a conference on the development of a balanced art curriculum. After an introduction, national and state level goals are outlined. This is followed by excerpts from "Arts Education in Pennsylvania Public Schools: An assessment." The authors and titles for the individual presentations are: "An "Intelligence" Approach to Arts Education" (Howard Gardner); "Children's Conceptions of the Arts" (Howard Gardner, Ellen Winner, and Mary Kircher); "Children's Concepts of Art" (Mary Burkett); and "A Developmental Model of Artistic Processes" (Mary Erickson and Terri Kriebel). Outlines of 12 elementary and 19 secondary art activities are presented dealing with such subjects and approaches as creating a meaningful art history program, ornamental headpieces, linking arts and humanities, working with metals, and water color.
