A Curriculum Guide for Students Labeled Behaviorally Disordered.
Peary, Marjorie E.
The guide discusses practical issues related to the instruction of children with behavior disorders. An initial section examines the variety of definitions for the population. Section 2, on behavior management, reviews general strategies as well as the specific approach of behavior modification. Information is presented on possible reinforcers and token reinforcement. Three selected instructional strategies--F. Hewitt's engineered classroom, W. Morse's crisis intervention, and behavior therapy are described in the next section. Section 4 features individualized education program development with attention to writing longterm goals and short term objectives as well as developing specific goals and objectives for behaviorally disordered students. Student discipline is the focus of section 5 which addresses suspension/expulsion and student rights. The guide concludes with a listing of materials, possible topics and classroom activities, and specific goals and objectives in the prevocational skills area (basic literacy skills in reading, writing, math, consumer economics, and career awareness).
