Enhancing the awareness of (1) the organization of "typical" computer projects, (2) the communication that emerges from those structures, and (3) the problems that technical communications inherently hold is the purpose of this paper. It begins by presenting the organization of the working group of a computer project (a college that is going to transfer student transcripts from a manual system to an automated system) and the roles played by these individuals. It then lists briefly the communication environments that might exist in such a project and specific communication difficulties that can and do arise in conveying technical information. The paper concludes by grouping suggestions for improving communication into three main areas: general suggestions, suggestions for the oral communication event, and organizational suggestions. (HOD)
