Quality Circle Training for Community College Educators and Students and the Businesses They Serve. Final Report.
McIlwain, Doris W.
A project sought to extend Central Piedmont Community College's (CPCC) expertise in quality circles. Objectives were to provide low-cost quality circle training for personnel in community colleges and business and industry and to provide instruction in quality circles for college students. Three hundred educators and business people attended one-half-day seminars in initiating quality circles. Later, approximately 70 people attended five 3-day quality circle facilitator training workshops. Through seminars and management courses in different curricula, approximately 140 CPCC students were exposed to the quality circle philosophy and process. Conclusions were that educators do not appear to be ready to embrace the concept of quality circles; that industry is becoming more and more interested in employee involvement programs, especially quality circles; and that a continuing need exists for community colleges to disseminate quality circle information. Appendixes, amounting to over one-half of the report, include an overview of quality circles; a seminar announcement, a quality circles in industry brochure, handout materials and evaluation forms for seminars; instructions for facilitator training groups to teach steps in the problem solving process; and an evaluation form for educator's facilitator training.
