The Implementation of a Science Lab for Elementary Schools K-3.
Robinson, Irene S.
A program for remediating science illiteracy among primary level students is offered in this publication. A practicum was designed to address the lack of science teaching and student science experiences at the Marian Boyd School in Warrentown, North Carolina. Priorities included in-service education for teachers, a science laboratory for students, and effective utilization of available resources. Problem areas and probable causes were identified and solution strategies were offered. It was anticipated that implementation of the program would result in improvement of teacher attitudes and competencies in science and science instruction, development of hands-on science learning centers, and student mastery of science process skills. Data and findings reveal that the major program goals were met and that program continuance would be assured. (ML)
