In spring 1984, a follow-up survey was conducted to gather data about the activities and perceptions of Lane Community College (LCC) students after leaving the institution. The survey focused on graduates, "no formal award completers" and "early leavers" of the 50 vocational programs offered at LCC. Overall, 623 former students responded to the survey for a response rate of 57.5%. Study findings include the following: (1) among "early leavers" (i.e., those enrolled during fall 1983, but not during fall 1984), 51.7% were 28 years old or younger, 12.2% were ethnic group members, and 30.8% were disadvantaged or handicapped; (2) "no formal award completers" (i.e., students who had achieved 70 or more credits and did not return to LCC in fall 1984) had the highest percentage (37.6%) of respondents currently attending school; (3) the majority of those currently in school indicated that their studies related to their training at LCC; (4) 79.6% of the graduates were employed; (5) 24.0% of the graduates, 11.0% of the "no formal award completers" and 10.9% of the "early leavers" were earning $1,500 or more per month; (6) 85% of graduates rated technical knowledge and skills training at LCC as either good or very good; (7) the primary reasons "early leavers" left LCC were lack of money and dissatisfaction with their academic performance; and (8) the primary reasons "no formal award completers" left LCC were to transfer and lack of money.
