Post-Secondary Analysis of Clothing/Textiles Technology Programs in Texas.
Glosson, Linda R.; And Others
A study examined postsecondary occupational programs in clothing and textiles technology in Texas in order to (1) identify common essential competencies taught in postsecondary clothing/textiles technology programs, (2) develop and distribute student competency profiles of essential common competencies shared by the eight areas of study within these programs, (3) determine clothing/textiles technology competencies common to both secondary and postsecondary programs, (4) develop a play for articulation among and between postsecondary and secondary clothing/textiles technology programs, and (5) develop a model for improving communications among practitioners at both instructional levels. Data were obtained from a two-round Delphi study that was originally mailed to 100 postsecondary textiles/clothing teachers throughout Texas. Sixty-one teachers completed the first round and 45 completed the second. Of the 70 competencies and 259 subcompetencies included on the survey instruments, 59 and 191 reached a 70 percent or more consensus, respectively. Some of these were directly related to instruction provided at the secondary level in the areas of clothing, textiles, and home furnishings. (Appendixes, which comprise two-thirds of this report, include various survey-related correspondence, the survey instruments used in each round, a list of competencies and subcompetencies not reaching consensus, tables displaying responses pertaining to each of the individual competencies and subcompetencies, and a postsecondary clothing and textiles student competency profile.)
