The state mandated Tennessee Career Ladder program has five levels: (1) the probationary certificate for the first-year teacher; (2) the apprentice certificate, issued upon satisfactory completion of the probationary year; (3) the Career Level I certificate, issued upon satisfactory performance at the apprentice level; (4) the Career Level II certificate, issued upon completion of at least one Career Level I five-year period and upon meeting the requirements of the state teacher evaluation system for Career Level II; and (5) the Career Level III certificate, issued upon completion of the five-year Career Level II period and upon meeting the requirements of the state teacher evaluation system for Career Level III. This manual is designed to provide teachers with the information needed to understand the Career Ladder Teacher Evaluation System and to prepare for Career Levels II and III evaluations. Information is included on: (1) the evaluation process; (2) areas of competence; (3) sources of evaluation data; (4) teacher observation; (5) questionnaire used in evaluation; (6) candidate interviews; (7) teacher portfolios; (8) career ladder test; (9) certification standards; and (10) rights of teachers.
