I Can Count the Petals of a Flower. Second Edition.
Wahl, John; Wahl, Stacey
This book introduces children to the numbers 1 through 16 (and some basic mathematical concepts) using the petals of a variety of flowers. The first part of the book contains 16 full-color photographs, each photograph showing a flower with 1 to 16 petals, with the number printed below the photograph. These pages can be used to introduce or reinforce the counting experiences of younger children. For older children, the counting experiences lead into new and different insights of mathematical concepts. These concepts include evens and odds, factors (multiplication facts), primes and composites, and examples of line and point symmetry. A review section (which uses pictures of the same flowers found in the counting section), instructions on how to use the book, a list of the botanical and common names of the flowers pictured in the book, and the words for the numbers 1 to 16 in six languages are included.
