The ten columns deal with the following topics: (1) listening and following directions; (2) building independent learners; (3) writing; (4) oral expression; (5) staying on task; (6) using peer influence to motivate students to read; (7) offering students opportunities for active, personal involvement in the reading program; (8) using techniques that allow students to recognize themselves as invaluable school resources; (9) using strategies involving the principal's office as a source of positive motivation; and (10) creating an environment in the reading laboratory that motivates students to read.
