This report highlights and presents examples of the Commission on Physical Science, Mathematics, and Resources' (CPSMR) recent activities and future plans. Selected programs and activities from the 224 boards and committees that operate within CPSMR are reviewed. These range from studies of basic science to examinations of applied science and engineering from matters that are primarily scientific and technical to those with policy implications, from issues involving a single discipline to those crossing many disciplines. Areas addressed include: (1) state of the disciplines (with references to astrophysics, chemistry, and new technologies); (2) structure and management of the commission (listing of the standing boards); (3) program accomplishments (explanations of reports on acid deposition, changing climate, and waste disposal operations); (4) current activities (projects concerned with atmospheric effects of nuclear war, ocean science, and international geosphere-biosphere relations); (5) future studies (dealing with nuclear power, space science and materials in space); (6) critical issues (organizational concerns and priority guidelines); (7) modes of response (detailing procedures of letter reports, compressed response, and round table discussion); and (8) financial matters (information on expenditures).
