Self-Study Report for Candidacy. Prepared by Mennonite College of Nursing for the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Mennonite Coll. of Nursing, Bloomington, IN.
A self-evaluation report by the Mennonite College of Nursing, which is applying for candidacy status with the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, is presented. Information is provided on the evolution of the program and the program evaluation process, as well as strengths and concerns of the college and plans for further development. After tracing the heritage of the college, including its beginnings in 1919 and its growth into a diploma school of nursing, attention is directed to four accreditation criteria and the efforts of the college to meet each criteria. Areas of concern include: the institutional mission of the college and its parent institution, the Mennonite Hospital Association; governance; organization and administration; faculty; staff support; students; student services; library resources; facilities; the educational program; and financial resources. The mission of the college focuses on professionalism, value affirmations, and balance between the academic and the experiential aspects of the nursing program. As a single purpose upper-division institution, the college integrates and builds upon general education obtained from other postsecondary institutions. Graduates of Mennonite College of Nursing receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. (SW)
