Three issues of the journal for 1985 focus on issues related to special education in New York. The winter issue centers on educating low incidence handicapped children in New York City. Articles address such aspects as special education effectiveness, occupational training centers, centers for multiply handicapped students, hospital schools, early childhood programs for Downs syndrome children, and the role of paraprofessionals. The spring issue presents an analysis of services in New York state for deaf students. Articles touch on such topics as minority deaf students, the use of sign language, vocational rehabilitation, teacher preparation, and metnal health. The fall issue examines special education curriculum and instructional practice in terms of early childhood, learning disabilities, emotional handicaps, reading disabilities, mathematics, secondary level mainstreaming, and software individualization.
