This module contains resource materials to help vocational education teachers construct effective written tests. (The materials supplement the videotape on "Written Test Construction.") Materials in the packet include guidelines for developing written tests in general and specific guidelines for the five major types of test items, brief description of Benjamin Bloom's different levels of higher learning, an explanation of difficulty level and discrimination power of test items, and a short bibliography. A short form for feedback also is enclosed. Teachers completing the module should be able to do the following: (1) list three ways a well-written test can help with instructional duties; (2) identify five major steps in developing a written test (3) define four major qualities of a well-written test; (4) list three to five basic guidelines for developing multiple choice, true/false, matching, completion, and essay test items; (5) determine item difficulty level and discrimination power for a test; and (6) construct concise, accurate, understandable test items for their classes.
