A Feasibility Study of the Use of Microcomputers and Related Software for Gathering and Transmitting Data for the FBMA Program. Final Report.
Stewart, Bob R.; Mihalevich, J. Rick
This project studied the feasibility of using microcomputers for gathering and transmitting farm record information to the analysis portion of the Farm Business Management Analysis (FBMA) program in Missouri. Considerations were given to improving the accuracy of data submitted, the turnaround time to complete the analysis, and other factors judged to be appropriate. The target population included 75 programs for adults in vocational agriculture in Missouri. The materials were field tested with data from nine locations. After a review of existing software programs and methods for data gathering, the project advisory committee recommended that a customized program be developed for the use of gathering data on three models of microcomputers for the FBMA analysis. The committee recommended, based on reviews, that available software be used for the purpose of transmitting data for the FBMA analysis. The committee also recommended that the software programs be disseminated to all teachers working with the FBMA program and that they be encouraged to use them for gathering data for analysis. It is anticipated that the use of the program for gathering data for analysis, with the related error checks, will improve the accuracy of data and the turnaround time required for the FBMA analysis. (More than half of the document consists of the feasibility checklists, software specifications, the program development model, the data entry manual, and samples of output.) (Author/KC)
