The materials in this document, which is to be used for teaching teachers and assistant teachers how to teach reading, are presented in five modules: (1) "Teaching Reading: An Overview for Classroom Teachers and Assistant Teachers"; (2) "Teaching and Reinforcing Word Recognition: What to do When a Child Doesn't Respond Correctly to a Word"; (3) "Understanding the Long and Short Vowel Sounds--A Refresher Session for Assistant Teachers"; (4) "Instructional Techniques for Teaching Vowel Sounds to Primary Students," and (5) "Instructional Techniques and Reinforcement Methods Relating to Consonant Blends." Each module, typically, contains the following: an overview, concepts to be developed, preview questions, follow up activities, the presentation of instructional material, resources used, and appendixes containing materials for student and teacher use.
