Five years after their graduation from high school in Colorado, a sample of 1,143 students who had been enrolled in a vocational education program were sent follow-up questionnaires. Of the 268 former students providing usable responses, 63 percent were working full-time, 12 percent were full-time students, and approximately 16 percent were going to school while working either part- or full-time, with only 3 percent either unemployed or seeking employment. Seventy-seven percent of the respondents felt that the skills learned while in their high school vocational program were useful in their current daily work; 61 percent listed a job title related to their vocational training. Of the 115 students who had participated in a cooperative education program while in high school, 46 percent indicated that the program helped them a great deal in developing interpersonal skills and 71 percent felt that the cooperative program contributed significantly to their overall skill development. Eighty-five percent of the students who had pursued further education after high school graduation felt that their vocational training helped them in their schooling. Of those responding to the optional question concerning present income, 55 percent were earning a salary of more than $15,000 per year. (MN)
