This report on information processing studies in Japan focuses on the installation and utilization of microcomputers at various educational levels, subject areas, and types of schools. Types of use explored include computer assisted instruction, computer managed instruction, and computer education. A brief description of the Japanese educational system and its current situation is followed by a presentation on how information processing studies are being carried out in schools with respect to form and content. The six-part paper comprises the following sections: (1) Education in Japan; (2) Curricula and Organization of the Teaching Content; (3) Information Processing Studies in Elementary, Lower Secondary, and Upper Secondary Schools; (4) Information Processing Studies in Universities; (5) Information Processing Studies in Special Training Schools; and (6) Information Processing Studies Outside the School.
