Task Force Report on Microcomputer Applications in Education.
River East School Div. 9, Winnipeg (Manitoba).
In 1983, an 11-member task force of teachers and school administrators reviewed the general state of the art of microcomputer applications in education in order to make recommendations for the River East School Division 9 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The group recommended that the school division pursue a deliberate and systematic plan for implementing computer-related learning activities in grades K-12 in all schools. Specific recommendations included the following items: (1) committees of teachers should select and evaluate software and courseware; (2) every elementary school should offer LOGO and word processing; (3) standards for purchasing hardware should be established and reviewed annually; (4) one computer learning station should be available in every elementary classroom and special education class; (5) senior high guidance services and libraries should have access to computers; (6) workshops should be planned for administrators and special education teachers; and (7) the administration of accounts and records in the central office and in schools should be computerized within two years. A proposed budget and revenue sources were given for the three year program implementation period. (GDC)
