Academically Gifted Program: Annual Evaluation Report.
Turner, Susan D.
This is the final evaluation report for the first year of the Academically Gifted Program (AGP) in the Hillsborough County (Florida) Public Schools. The program is supported by state funds and is intended to offer academically challenging content in mathematics and science to gifted students in grades three to twelve. The report presents a project history and description; an explanation of the evaluation methodology; a summary of program evaluation results; and recommendations for program improvement. Major issues investigated during the formative evaluation included teacher selection and training; program locations; funding requirements and allocations; curriculum design and implementation; student identification and selection; scheduling and instructional time allotments; and perceptions of teachers, parents, and administrators. It was concluded that most elementary and secondary AGP students and their parents reacted favorably to the program, the elementary AGP operated relatively smoothly, and the secondary AGP was hampered by hurried implementation.
