The Utah social studies curriculum for grades K-12 is divided into three levels: K-6, 7-8, and 9-12. For K-6, mastery of core concepts is required; for grades 7-8, 1.5 units of United States History and Utah studies are required; and for grades 9-12, three units of world cultural geography, ancient world civilizations, European history, United States Studies, or American history are required. Core options include American government and law, economics, modern world civilizations, psychology, sociology, and world cultural geography II. Additional courses on consumer skills, American democratic governance, and introductory citizenship principles and practices are also included where mandated by local school boards. For grades K-6, standards and objectives are listed for each grade. For grades 7-12, each course is described separately, along with its standards and objectives. (IS)
