Fund Raising and Institutional Advancement.
Fregly, Marilyn S.
A 15-week semester graduate course in fund raising and philanthropy is described in this paper. After the course objectives are listed, the paper presents a course outline that contains five topical issues: the historical framework of charitable giving, the economics of philanthropy, benefactors, sources of philanthropic opportunity, and research in institutional advancement. Major course assignments described in the paper are to write a funding proposal to the fund source, complete with budget, and to analyze a national fund raising campaign, including the grass roots strategies to localize the promotion. The appendix contains a nine-page list of reference works useful in fund raising. (EL)
