This document provides witness testimony and prepared statements from five sessions of the Congressional hearing called to consider the question of pornographic material and its effects on women and children. Witnesses include several victims of sexual abuse, medical personnel, legal and law enforcement personnel, magazine representatives, and women who have appeared in pornographic films. The effects of sex and violence portrayed in magazines, in movies, and on television are considered, and the possibility that pornography may be a cause of child molestation is examined. The question of pornography as it may relate to abuse and molestation of children is explored, pornography as it may relate to problems of women is discussed, and pornography ordinances from Indianapolis and Minneapolis are examined. The final session contains testimony from individuals who believe that the materials under investigation are within the ambit of first amendment freedom.
