Manitoba Social Studies Assessment Program 1984. Final Report.
Manitoba Dept. of Education, Winnipeg. Curriculum Development Branch.
This report contains a summary of test results and interpretations for each grade and area tested as well as conclusions and specific recommendations. Ten percent of students in grades 3, 6, and 9 were randomly designated for the provincial sample and 10 percent of the high schools were selected for the grade 12 sample. The tests were designed to assess students in the four categories of objectives described in the curriculum: knowledge, thinking and research skills, attitudes and values, and social participation. Findings indicated that teachers were having some problems with the new curriculum, particularly in adopting innovative teaching strategies, setting priorities, and meeting all the goals of the curriculum. Student achievement in skills was not as high as hoped. (IS)
