Guide for Industrial Arts in South Carolina Schools.
South Carolina State Dept. of Education, Columbia. Office of Vocational Education.
This guide is designed to assist the administrator and the industrial arts teacher in carrying out their duties and providing an effective industrial arts program. An introduction defines industrial arts education, presents a philosophy, lists goals and objectives of industrial arts, and provides examples of typical relationships between industrial arts and other school curriculum subject fields. Section 2 describes the programs at the elementary school, junior high and middle school, and senior high school levels (activities, purpose, organization, course content, curriculum). Special programs and program evaluation are addressed. A recommended organizational plan is included. Section 3 provides names and addresses of professional and student industrial arts organizations. Section 4 on laboratory facilities offers a philosophic statement and recommendations for general planning. Teacher preparation, requirements for a professional certificate in industrial arts, and inservice education activities are discussed in section 5. Section 6 on management lists responsibilities of the state supervisor, local supervisor, school principal, and teacher. Section 7 focuses on safety--teacher responsibility, state safety law, and teacher liability. A reference section is organized by industrial arts areas. An equipment list is appended. (YLB)
