A keynote address, five selected conference papers, and two panel discussions are presented in these conference proceedings. The keynote address, "Breaking the Disciplines" (Florence Howe), examines the development of traditional disciplines as the mainstream of higher education's curriculum and the omission of women from these disciplines. An opening panel (Joan Straumanis, Barbara Smith, and Mary B. Williams) then presents a feminist perspective concerning the structure of knowledge. The first of five selected papers, "Interdisciplinary Studies and Women's Studies: Questioning Answers and Creating Questions" (Diana Grossman Kahn), is developed around six basic questions believed to have motivated the creation of women's studies. The second paper, "Generic 'Man' and Mortal Woman" (Joan Straumanis), draws a distinction between the sexism of language and sexism expressed in language. The third paper, "Sex Differences in Choices of Toys and Modes of Play in Nursery School" (Margaret Berrio), explores toy choices as indicators of the development of sex roles in children, while a fourth paper, "Women in Epic" (Anne Shaver), examines the role of women in epic poetry. In the fifth paper, Margherita Repetto presents an historical look at the development of women's liberation in Italy after World War II. A final presentation by the closing panel (Rita Kipp, Paul Lauter, and Joan Straumanis), entitled "The Feminist Critique: Plans and Prospects" and a schedule of conference events conclude the document.
