Development and Implementation of an Elementary School Computer Assisted Instructional Program.
Baggett, Freeman E.
In order to create a computer-literate elementary school, this practicum aimed (1) to provide information about computer-assisted instruction (CAI) to all kindergarten through grade 5 teachers while developing a prototypical classroom in grade 2; (2) to increase community awareness of CAI; and (3) to encourage quality networking among educators interested in CAI. Evaluation results indicate that all goals were attained: (1) The teachers became aware of CAI; (2) the grade 2 teacher received inservice training and experience promoting a leadership role in CAI; (3) the school's computer was utilized to assist instruction in curriculum areas; (4) the students became more computer literate; (5) the community became more knowledgeable about computers in education; and (6) a network circle of CAI leaders was formed. Related materials are appended, including questionnaires, tests, instructional materials, and newsletters. (Author/RH)
