Computerized Individualized Educational Plans: One Way.
Kellogg, Robert C.
The paper describes a mainframe based, locally devised computer-based system that meets the needs of a medium sized district in managing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for handicapped students. The program produces and stores behaviorally based IEPs tailored to reflect the competency based regular education curriculum in use. The system includes a management information system to comply with legal and administrative requirements. An accompanying thesaurus aligns itself with general categories of learning (e.g., expressive language, spelling, and self-help); these are then broken down into tasks (e.g., naming, interrogatives) and skills (e.g., naming of body parts and of toys). Byproducts of the system include mini-IEPs for each child in the classroom and a longitudinal record with which to review a student's program over time. In addition to the thesaurus, appended materials include a sample of a completed IEP and a list of modality codes. (CL)
