How to Do Long-Range Planning and Goal Setting.
Lakey, Edward R.; Hummel, Judy
Materials are provided for a 2- to 3-day workshop for different school constituencies to establish direction, focus, and long-range goals for a school system. The workshop is also intended to help clarify and foster a working relationship between the board of education and the administrative staff that will include definition of individual roles as well as the role of each group. Question-answer worksheets for participants' comments are provided for use in discussion sessions concerning: role conflict between boards and administrators; perceptions of public schools; descriptions of the school system, now and in 5 years; ranking of board actions; ranking of the role of schools; ranking of a superintendent by degrees of authority; and an exercise that matches priority needs against available resources. Also included is a Goals Workbook consisting of the 1983-84 goal statements and objectives of Kanawha County Schools, West Virginia, to be used for review. (MLF)
