Goals of the "Transition, Retraining, and Change for Entry" project were to provide counseling and/or group support for single heads of households or persons entering nontraditional employment and to provide placement services for the target group. A third goal was to disseminate information about the value of and opportunities in nontraditional careers especially for women. Outreach, recruitment, and awareness development activities directed at the professional and college communities were classroom presentations, workshops and seminars for students in grades 8-12, and the mailing of two brochures. Intake, one-to-one counseling, referral, and followup activities included a summary profile taken from initial intake data and followup by phone and letter. Methods used in the employment, employability skills, Job Club, and workshops components included a job-finding workshop for women graduating in nontraditional technical training and implementation of a Job Club, which used an educational/self-help or "peer counseling" format. Findings supported use of all the strategies, with Job Club highlighted as a significant strategy in helping displaced homemakers find employment.
