Technical Updating Needs Assessment of Florida's Vocational Instructors. Final Report, from July 1, 1983 to August 31, 1984.
Rader, Billie T.
A study examined the perceptions of Florida vocational teachers concerning their needs for technical updating. A survey administered to all vocational teachers in Florida in 1982-83 identified more than 2,000 individual technical update needs. Since this number was too large to identify specific areas of priority, a project was conducted in 1983-84 to reduce the number of updating needs and to prioritize them in such a way as to provide a database that could be used in providing funding for updating activities in Florida. To prioritize the technical-update needs identified in 1982-83, a selected group of teachers reviewed the needs list to reduce redundancy. Next, employees prioritized the top 10 needs in each teaching area. Finally, a literature review was conducted to identify models of technical update programs, to determine levels of funding necessary for such programs, and to identify strategies for persuading teachers to participate in updating activities. (This report contains a summary of the literature review, lists of identified needs and potential sources of training to meet the need for such training in 10 vocational education subject areas, and source information sheets detailing sources of technical update training that are located outside Florida.
