A study examined the attitudes of 1983 graduates of Delaware public high schools toward their career plans and their perceptions of the value of their career planning guidance and school curricula as they contributed to their satisfaction with their career goals. A questionnaire designed to gather data for the study was published in a secondary school newspaper that is circulated throughout high schools in Delaware. Contact persons in each school were charged with making sure that only seniors (individuals soon to be graduating) completed the survey instrument. In all, 813 completed surveys were received from 29 high schools. A statistical analysis of the completed surveys indicated that vocational students have a more positive attitude toward their career planning than do their classmates in the general or college preparatory academic programs. Continued analysis of these data revealed that a relationship exists between a parent's educational level and the student's educational plans to pursue a career goal. When asked to select the one high school course that they wished they could have taken, most of the graduates mentioned a course in computers. (The survey instrument is appended to this report.) (MN)
