This collection of papers focusing on multicultural education in Great Britain is addressed to administrators, teachers, teacher educators, students, and policymakers. Most of the papers review such themes as the development of educational policy, the school curriculum, the educational performance of West Indian and other ethnic minority children, and the relationships of home, school, and community in a diverse society. Several papers consider the policy implication of equality, diversity and social cohesion as societal objectives; the nature and limitations of popular assumptions in multicultural education; and the available research on these subjects. An introduction by Maurice Craft reviews the recent debate over multicultural education and asserts that its nature is increasingly ideological.
